RSC Anderlecht sign Kasper Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel (36) has signed a contract for one season with RSC Anderlecht. The experienced goalkeeper and stronghold of the Danish national team was a free agent after his previous challenge at OGC Nice.

Kasper Schmeichel is a widely acclaimed goalkeeper originally formed at Manchester City, playing 10 games for the first team of the Citizens. After passing through the lower leagues of English football at Notts County and Leeds, he signed a contract with Leicester City in 2011. The rest is history. The Foxes were promoted to the Premier League with Leicester City in 2014. Kasper was one of the strongholds of the team that won the Premier League in the 2015-2016 season. In the summer of 2022, he left the Foxes after no less than 11 seasons and 479 games and with not only the Premier League title in his pocket, but also with the FA Cup and the Community Shield in his trophy cabinet.

Kasper Schmeichel has also been the main goalkeeper of the Danish national team for a long time now. With Denmark, he played at the 2018 World Cup, the 2022 World Cup and reached the semi-finals at the 2020 European Championship. Often wearing the captain's armband for Denmark, Kasper has 91 caps for the national team. He was also named Professional Footballer of the Year in Denmark on four occasions.

CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg:

"Although we are happy with the current squad, this was an exceptional opportunity to bring in a goalkeeper with so much experience and know-how. The signing of Kasper Schmeichel fits our desire to have top competition in all positions. Kasper can be of enormous value to this club with his experience, on and off the pitch.”

Kasper Schmeichel:

“After speaking with Jesper and Brian, I was very excited about the project that they’re putting in place. Anderlecht is just a massive club and former teammates from different places - like Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet, Marcin Wasilewski and Vincent Kompany – have always talked so highly and warmly of this place. It was something that I really wanted to become part of.”

Welcome, Kasper.
